Colt’s Gen 3 Glock Clone, SIG P320 Troubles & A Fix?, Google Business Profile SEO For FFL’s

Welcome Back to the Saloon

On today’s episode of the Cap & Ball Saloon we’ll be talking patents and highlighting Colt’s new striker fired design.

Does Colt want to throw it’s hat into the Glock Gen 3 market with its own offering? Traditionally offering 1911 style pistols, could Colt be making a competitor to Glock or do they have the M&P 9 Metal HD in their sights instead?

SIG has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, but a new patent from a former SIG employee may give the P320 a chance at being safe again. We discuss.

Finally for FFL’s we’ll be talking Google Business Profiles and setting them up along with some tips on how to get feedback from your customers online.

A suppressed six shooter

  • First the suppressed six shooter.
  • Well this is an integrally suppressed revolver
  • Now for some background for those unfamiliar most revolvers are next to impossible to suppress properly because of the cylinder gap between the barrel’s forcing cone and the cylinder itself.
  • This is necessary for revolver designs because the cylinder has to rotate but this new integrally suppressed revolver takes a page from Nagant M1895 revolver.
    • As an aside, my favorite FPS right now is Hunt Showdown and the only suppressed revolver in the horror western themed game is a Nagant M1895 revolver.
  • Essentially the cylinder is cammed forward when in position and eliminates the gap. (Claim 0013)
  • This allows the revolver to be integrally suppressed unlike most pistol designs.
  • The rest of the drawings show a rather chunky and interesting baffle design, and while the patent only mentions .22 caliber in it the final production gun would inherently have some pretty cool aesthetics to it.
  • Maybe I’m the only one that sees it, but I could see this being a great little quiet plinker with a cyber punk style.

Bond Arms Bullpup 9 and The Model 3 Had a Baby

Zenk LLC | Revolver

  • So the Bond Arms Bullpup 9 and the Smith & Wesson Model 3 had a baby.
  • This is the Zenk RZMK-357 revolver. While I’m not sure if it’s currently available for purchase just yet we have a new spin on the old style of break action revolver.
  • Now previously break action revolvers have broken open at the cylinder and had a more tractional revolver layout.
  • However, the RZMK-357 take a page from the Bond Arms Bullpup 9 and moves the cylinder back, giving you this interesting hybrid of a semi-auto and revolver layout.

CZ’s New Safety Patent

Cross-sectional pistol (P13) – CZ pistols to replace the P8 in the Bundeswehr

https://youtu.be/MNPa0IZUviU

  • Daniel was also chiding me for not talking about this other CZ patent so of course I had to drop it into this episode.
  • Previously I was talking about CZ’s new striker fired pistol design patent and how it could be a “Glock killer” well hyperbole aside, it’s an interesting design. Daniel was suggesting that it could be more competition focused and I definitely could see that from CZ.
  • Striker fired, manual safety with a lighter trigger than what you get on a standard “Glock safe action” style design? Yeah, I could see that as a popular race gun.
  • But the other CZ patent I wanted to talk about was this design that allows for, much like another Glock patent I talked about previously, disassembly without a trigger pull.
  • Currently speculation is that this is for a recently awarded contract for the Bundeswehr that CZ was awarded.
  • The pistol will be the P13 and might be a modified P10 F or other P10 CZ pistol.
  • It will be interesting to see if this is a trend that catches on. We now have two companies with similar designs, both are probably contract requirements.
  • And as military preferences inform civilian ones we might see a future wave of designs that eliminate the need for a trigger pull as part of disassembly. But now I’m really in the weeds and just spit balling so if nothing else this may signal a change in preference for the disassembly process for striker fired pistols.
  • Interesting to the engineers and turbo nerds like me but I can understand if the regular shooter feels very meh about this.

Colt Patent’s a new striker fired design.

https://x.com/556timeline/status/1948654005522936304

https://worldwide.espacenet.com/publicationDetails/originalDocument?CC=US&NR=2025237452A1&KC=A1&FT=D&ND=4&date=20250724&DB=&locale=en_EP

  • I was joking, in my typically dead pan way, that this was the M&P 3.0 on X but in all seriousness this is yet another entry into the striker fired pistol market.
  • I don’t see anything that’s a radical departure from what we are used to seeing in this category of pistols, for better or worse. But a lot of the claims on the patent are around the trigger shoe.
  • I don’t see any reference as to if the frame will be polymer or metal, but I could see Colt going either direction with this. I’d imagine that Colt has quite a bit of tooling that they may or may not be able to use for
  • Colt has kept out of the striker fired market of late, but if they do a good job with this I’ll be happy to see them throw their hat in the ring. If anything, I’d argue that having a number of quality striker fired options on the market will just keep prices reasonable for the consumer.
  • So I guess we need to settle on a name for this. Golt?, M&C?, CC-P10?, All American 3000? Give me your suggestions below.

Chiappa Rhino in 10mm?

First Look: Chiappa Rhino Revolvers In 10mm Auto – Gun Digest

  • Now this could be interesting.
  • I personally love the aesthetics and the bottom cylinder design of the Rhino
  • I wanted to point this out since I did recently do a video talking about the 10mm auto and the history of various .40 caliber cartridges.
  • I’d expect this to need moon clips since it will be running an auto cartridge.
  • Pricing looks to be at around $1400.

Lima Six Belt Fed Update

https://x.com/L6_Underground/status/1950674941218529758

  • Beta units have arrived for the Lima Six belt fed and Harvey’s it looks like were close to seeing the first beta units running.
  • In the recently posted video on X and YouTube you can see some of the work he’s put in to make the top cover incredibly sable as an optics mounting platform.
  • Set screw, tensioned hinge, I expect this to deliver great results.
  • Also using a standard magazine release for the cover latch is brilliant. It may not sound like much but if you think about it Harvey’s showing he’s looking for ways to keep costs down and keep this as an easy to service platform.

FryTech Buffer Entering into Production

https://x.com/Frytechllc/status/1950005320677544195

  • Another project I’ve been following is FryTech’s magnetic buffer system and we do have some news on that front too.
  • On July 28th Fry showed off the initial pre-production test unit of his magnetic buffer design from PAMax and it seems to be performing flawlessly.
  • Again we’re looking at a $130 price point and rumor has it that pre-orders for the initial run will be starting soon. So give Fry or PAMax a follow on X to stay up to date.

Shawn Ryan & Gavin Newsom

Gavin Newsom  – Governor of California | SRS #218

  • Man this disgust me
  • Look, I’m not sitting through 4+ hours of that sub-human slime sit and talk with Shawn Ryan neither man interests me
  • But to give him a gift of a pistol so he can start looking like a sensible gun control guy is absolute BS.
  • Look I’m not one to throw around accusations without some kind of evidence but I think the optics of this stink.
  • We KNOW Newscum is eyeing a presidential bid and this looks like a blatant attempt to cater to those who don’t pay attention and make it look like Newsom has not been trying to trample on our rights for his entire career.
  • I HIGHLY doubt that this was any kind of a surprise to Newsom, that shit just does not happen. ESPECIALLY at that level of politics. This is not your local school board, it’s the governor of fucking California, what should be one of the richest states in the country.
  • Maybe Ryan is clean in this, but seriously, it looks like he was involved in a campaign move, so either Ryan in incredibly dense or willing to take a paycheck from anyone.
  • Finally what’s incredibly funny is that despite this media stunt to make Newsom look more “moderate” he ended up not even keeping the pistol because of CA’s ridiculous laws.
  • Hopefully this political theater has failed to convince anyone outside of CA that Newsom deserves a vote when he makes his inevitable presidential bid.

An Airman is Dead Because of His M18?

Air Force nuclear command pulls Sig M18 pistol after airman death

  • On July 20th an airman was shot and killed after taking off his M18 while still in the holster.
  • In response the Air Force has paused the use of the pistol and is replacing it with M4’s.
  • This is the second death that I’m familiar with because of the P320 family of pistols and now the military contract for the M17/M18 is going to see some serious scrutiny.
  • SIG’s recent posts on X also suggest that the Army is in on the investigation.
  • At this point, SIG will be lucky if they keep the contract.
  • Best case for them they end up shelling out millions to fix the M17/M18 and the P320 gets an even worse reputation.
  • Granted, there were issues with slides breaking with the Baretta 92. But my recollection is that those issues didn’t result in deaths and heat treatments for the slides were changed.
  • Air Force P320 Inspection Guidance Leaks
  • Furthermore it seems that there’s also new guidance for inspection and maintenance of the M17/M18 being issued by the Air Force.
  • On one side I could see the argument that this is a nothing to see here move, but it does seem like a proactive response to an incident like this.
  • Truthfully it would not surprise me if the military continues with the M17/M18 for now, but this is just mounting pressure to take a serious look at the contract and how SIG is producing and QC-ing their products.
  • Additionally it has been reported that there is now a potential criminal aspect to this incident, but for now nothing has been confirmed so until something becomes official it’s all speculation at this point.
  • In another development Wyoming Gun Project seems to have found another potential issue with the P320. By pushing back the trigger about 1mm he was able to demonstrate the pistol going off with simple pressure on the slide.
  • SIG P320 Un Commanded Discharge and its Repeatable
  • Now IvanPrintsGuns and Jared AF has rebutted this test, showing a Glock doing the same thing. It’s a good counter point for this test and all I’d say is that at best the test shows that the “window” for this condition may be too large.
  • I’ve actually tried this with the SR-40 that I have and I’ve been unable to recreate the condition with that particular pistol. So while it’s not a “omg they are so wrong” moment, it seems that the specific tolerances make the window for this condition larger or smaller.
  • So that gives us, the old drop safety issue, possible mismatch between sizes of take down safeties, parts breakages or springs getting loose, and now slight reward travel of the trigger causing uncommanded discharges if the slide is bumped. With the number of possible ways for the P320 to fail stacking up like this I’m starting to believe that SIG is having a hard time nailing down THE issue since they seem to be playing whack a mole with multiple issues.
  • SIG may not care about civilian sales, but I guarantee you that if civilians and LEO’s don’t trust the pistol then the military will start looking for other options. At this point I’m wondering how long before we hear that SIG has filed for Ch. 11.
  • Yet for those that want to cling to their P320’s there seems to be a fix.
  • US20250164203A1 – Firearm safety with sear block – Google Patents
  • Brian McDonald, a former SIG employee has developed and patented an improved version of the manual safety for the P320 that actually blocks the sear. Quote from the patent.
  • “The prior art “safety” mechanism will prevent the trigger bar from moving forward and acting upon the sear to release the firing pin but it does not, in any way, prevent the sear itself from moving under the force from any other action. This allows for the potential for the sear to be jarred and moved from the reset position to the release position even when the firearm safety is in the “safe” position. This condition is clearly shown in FIG. 14 . This allowed rotational movement of the sear will then release the firing pin. When this occurs, the firing pin will be free to travel forward with only a firing pin safety featuring minimal contact area remaining in place to prevent the firing pin from striking the primer of a loaded round already positioned in the barrel of the firearm. In this way, the prior art is an incomplete and unsafe design. This is further evidenced by multiple lawsuits which have been filed alleging that the P320 model firearm will have accidental discharges even when securely stored in a holster with no action being taken to manipulate the trigger, safety or any other component of the firearm.”
  • McDonald’s design can be dropped into any P320 versions with a manual safety, however, those without will need some additional machining work.
  • I don’t know if this will “save” the P320 but SIG won’t be able to just up and copy this work, if they want to incorporate it into an M17A1 design then they will have to license the rights from McDonald.

The Barrett MK22 Issues

Barrett MK22 Sniper Joins the Sig P320 Failure Club

  • In similar news it looks like a few of the Barrett MK22 rifles have been having some issues with not firing and then going off when the bolt is bumped. I’ve seen at least two videos and to be honest I think were looking at a bit of a break in problem at least for now.
  • Looks like the out of battery safety is working and preventing the pin from driving home, but with the bolt being bumped its going fully into battery that last little bit. I’d be willing to bet that this is something that could go away with breaking in the rifle further or just too tight tolerances in general.
  • However, I’m not overly familiar with the MK22, so take those statements with a grain of salt.
  • For now I’m willing to give Barrett a pass on this. Shit happens and this is probably one of the “safer” malfunctions that could happen.

Your Digital Marketing Questions Answered

  • React Survival Adventure & Field Equipment asked
  • “As a small business, what are some of the more effective methods of getting feedback from customers and potential customers when making decisions that are customer facing?”
  • Two major ways. One if you have a good existing email list you can send out surveys with specific questions directly to your existing customers. Google Forms, Microsoft Forms, Survey Monkey, and more all give you good ways to collect and analyze responses.
  • Alternatively you can collect feedback from other sources. Social media, reviews on your Google Business profile, and user behavior on your website.
  • Microsoft offers Clarity as well, it’s a user interaction tracking software that lets you see how people are interacting with your website. You can see what people are interacting with and how they act when on your website. It’s free and relatively easy to integrate with your website.
  • I do want to point out that when it comes to collecting feedback getting it from your existing customers should be the most meaningful to you, social media has the issue of letting anyone, even those who haven’t or never will buy from you voice an opinion so just keep that bit in mind.
